There's a reason developers are jumping from Unity to Unreal. Hell, Pillars of Eternity and Firewatch drop frames on my GTX 1060. The same cannot be said of large-scale Unreal games, especially on console. There are plenty of large-scale Unreal games that are perfectly stable. Tarkov can be forgiven at this point for its sub-par performance because of its current state, but we cannot handwave it either. It's not about how it looks, it's about how it performs. The old artstyle was unique and eerily beautiful, while still being faithful to the original game. Though my original point wasn't on the use of engine, more on the bland artstyle they've switched to with the engine switch. And alot of those issues probably stem from the fact that they haven't updated the engine to the latest iteration of the Unreal engine. Ark performance is terrible on all platforms, especially consoles. ![]() Same thing can be said about Unreal games, take Ark as an example. But is still on par, if not better than alot of unreal4 engine games.Īnd Unity is constantly getting developed to iron out the kinks. Clearly it's easy to get projects up and running with Unity, but I think larger projects have all ended up suffering performance issues in the end, especially on consoles.Įscape from Tarkov is already in "the wild", albeit in an alpha state. Unity has an inferior lighting engine, is quite buggy, and has issues with console performance (see: Broforce).
